Peer review of teaching is essential for improving teaching and student learning and is a critical element of the teaching evaluation of a P&T dossier. Below are some resources, and example departmental peer review of teaching plans, that can be used by departments interested in developing and revising their peer review of teaching procedures. A group of COALS faculty and CTE Consultants who have expertise and experiences are available to meet with interested departments and offer consultation to support the development of effective peer review of teaching processes.
- TAMU Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) has a webpage with resources for peer review of teaching: https://cte.tamu.edu/Faculty-Teaching-Resource/Teaching/Peer-Review. It discusses the purposes, benefits, and the process of peer review of teaching. It also provides a comprehensive set of tools (evaluation forms/rubrics) which can be adopted or adapted by units for their peer review of teaching process.
- Example departmental peer review of teaching plans:
- University of Colorado has a nationally recognized Teaching Quality Framework (TQF) Initiative (https://www.colorado.edu/teaching-quality-framework/resources). Here is a one-page summary of the initiative and descriptions of the TQF categories and example rubric.
- University of Southern California’s Excellence in Teaching Initiative website (http://cet.usc.edu/usc-excellence-in-teaching-initiative/) provides a set of Peer Evaluation Resources with guides and tools for peer evaluation of teaching.
