Students holding F1 visas — follow up information

July 8, 2020 by John Chivvis Leave a Comment

Below is additional information related to questions about whether directed studies or seminar credits can count as face to face and the minimum number of F2F hours required.

  • Directed studies courses (e.g. 685) count as F2F, as do 691 courses.  I assume that 485 and 491 count as F2F, as well.
  • Seminar courses (e.g. 681) can count as F2F if they have F2F components.
  • Bill Taylor (ISS) states the following in relation to minimum F2F credits required:

ICE issued a new FAQ last night, https://www.ice.gov/doclib/sevis/pdf/sevisFall2020_FAQ.pdf.

The only guidance is that the student can take more than one class or three credit hours online if we are adopting a hybrid model.  One hour of F2F should be sufficient unless we receive further clarification from SEVP.
