New Student & Family Programs coordinates Howdy Week, traditionally the week before classes in August, and wanted to provide you with some updates. First, the official dates for Howdy Week 2020 are Monday, August 10 – Tuesday, 18, 2020.
A new feature for Howdy Week 2020 are designated Academic Days. Monday, August 16 and Tuesday, August 17 daytime (8 AM – 5 PM) programming has been reserved for academic colleges and departments. Due to virtual NSCs we thought it might be helpful to hold uninterrupted time for academic units to program and/or provide resources and services to students. Academic units are not required to host events, but can if they would like. This offer is also open to department affiliated and sponsored-level academic student organizations, such as the Society of Women Engineers or the National Society of Black Engineers.
Some examples of events or services:
- Virtual Drop in Advising appointments
- Virtual Open House
- Fall Kick Off featuring the Dean
- Mixer or Welcome Lunch
- Social media based contests
- Virtual donuts with the Dean
- Ask an Aggie – Q&A with academic related student organizations
For those who have previously hosted Howdy Week Events, we encourage you to host your event on one or both of these days. If you plan to host an event on-campus, please consider physical space is limited and capacity will vary based on what phase we are in reopening the state and the University. With this in mind, we highly encourage events move forward with virtual based programming. If you would like to host an in-person event, you should consider hosting the event outdoors and consult with the appropriate facility manager to discuss logistics as it relates to COVID-19 policies and procedures. Please note, all in-person events must have a hybrid virtual option for those students who are unable or choose to not attend the event in person.
Additional information, the announcement of featured events, and the call for events will be released next week and will be posted on the Howdy Week website.
